Teak (Tectona grandis) is a dense tropical hardwood valued for its exceptional durability, dimensional stability, and resistance to moisture, decay, and insects. It features a rich golden-brown color that darkens over time and a straight grain with coarse texture.

Used in institutional and research buildings for interior paneling, laboratory casework, custom millwork, and exterior cladding paired with concrete or travertine. Suitable for high-traffic areas requiring longevity and aesthetic warmth.

Old-growth teak harvesting contributes to deforestation and high embodied carbon from tropical sourcing and transport. Sequestration benefits are offset by slow regrowth rates compared to managed softwoods.
